Opened in the 1860s, Bofinger is the oldest Alsatian brasserie in town and one of the best. It's a Belle Epoque palace, resplendent with shiny brass and stained glass. Weather permitting, you can dine on an outdoor terrace. Affiliated today with La Coupole, Julien, and Brasserie Flo, the restaurant has updated its menu, retaining the most popular of its traditional dishes, like choucroute and a sole meunière. Recent additions have included roasted leg of lamb with a fondant of artichoke hearts and a purée of parsley, grilled turbot with a brandade (a pounded mixture of fish, olive oil, garlic, milk, and cream) of fennel, and stingray filet with chives and burnt-butter sauce. Shellfish, including an abundance of fresh oysters and lobster, is almost always available in season.
Main courses 14€-30€.Open: Mon-Fri noon-3pm and 6:30pm-1am; Sat-Sun noon-1am.Reservations recommended.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.Métro: Bastille.
