Chez André is one of the neighborhood's favorite bistros with an ambience that evokes France of the 1950s and a clientele that includes everyday folk as well as some of the most prosperous residents of this extremely upscale neighborhood. Outside, a discreet red awning stretches over an array of shellfish on ice; inside, an Art Nouveau decor includes etched glass and masses of flowers. This has been a landmark on rue Marbeuf since 3 years before the invasion of France in 1940. It remains as it was when it was founded (an agreement was made with the original owners). The old-style cuisine on the menu includes paté of thrush, Roquefort in puff pastry, grilled veal kidneys, roast rack of lamb, several kinds of omelets, calf's head vinaigrette, a potage du jour, fresh shellfish, and on Fridays, bouillabaisse. There are several reasonably priced wines offered as well. For variety, some locals opt for the plat du jour. The dessert choices may be rum baba, chocolate cake, or a daily pastry.
Main courses 16€-32€; prix fixe 27€.Open: Daily noon-1am.Reservations recommended.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.Métro: F. D. Roosevelt.
