CURRENCY CONVERTER

Long missing from this guide, this old-time bistro, opened in 1931, is back and as good as ever following a long decline. Once it was the leading bistro, although today the competition is too great to reclaim that reputation. In the front room is a zinc bar, a haven preferred by many celebrities over the years, including Mme Pompidou and movie actor Alain Delon. All the old Allard specialties are still offered. Try the snails, foie gras, veal stew, or frogs' legs. We head here on Mondays for the cassoulet Toulousian and on Saturday for the coq au vin. The cassoulet Toulousian (casserole of white beans and goose and other meats) remains one of the Left Bank's best. For dessert, we vote for the tarte tatin.

Main courses 19€-37€; prix fixe 31€ at lunch, 35€ at dinner.Open: Mon-Sat noon-3pm and 7:30-11pm.Reservations required.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.Métro: St-Michel or Odéon.
