CURRENCY CONVERTER

Everything about this place appeals to a crowd seeking down-to-earth prices and flavorful food. You'll recognize it by the pale green-colored facade and potted plants in the windows. L'Assiette was a charcuterie (pork butcher's shop) in the 1930s and today maintains some of its old accessories. Mitterrand used to drop in frequently with his cronies for oysters, crayfish, sea urchins, and clams. The food is unashamedly inspired by Paris's long tradition of bistro cuisine, with a few twists. Examples are chanterelle mushroom salad; foie gras; rillettes (a roughly textured paté) of mackerel; roasted guinea fowl; a fine version of blood sausage; and desserts made on the premises, including a crumbly version of apple cake with fresh North African figs. Particularly delicious is a petit salé (stew with vegetables) of duckling with wine from the Poitou region of west-central France.

Main courses 30€-50€; prix fixe 35€.Open: Wed-Sun noon-2:30pm and 8-10pm.Closed Aug.Reservations recommended.Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.Métro: Gaïté.
