Except on Thursday night when a clientele of mostly local residents is likely to drop in for dinner, Chez la Vieille only serves lunch. Amid a crush of local office workers and visitors to the nearby Louvre, you'll be served the first course and your dessert from a trolley, and wait for the staff to bring you your main course directly from the kitchen. This method evokes a large communal meal in a private home, or perhaps a boarding house. Starters change with the season and the mood of the staff, and include homemade terrines (there's one made from wild boar), stuffed cabbages and tomatoes, and more. Main courses might include pot-au-feu of beef, beef stew with carrots; or perhaps braised calf's liver. Walls are plastered with the photos of aspiring actors, singers, and photo-modèles who have enjoyed meals here.
