Basilique St-Denis

Though some visitors consider the Bar du Crillon too stiff and elegant to allow anyone to have a good time, its social and literary history is remarkable. Hemingway set a climactic scene of The Sun Also Rises here, and over the years it has attracted practically every upper-level staff member of the nearby American embassy, as well as heiresses, stars, starlets, and wannabes. Under its new owner, the Concorde Group, designer Sonia Rykiel has redecorated the bar. Down the hall is the Edwardian Jardin d'Hiver, where, amid potted palms and upscale accessories, you can order tea, cocktails, or coffee; it's open daily from noon to 9pm.
