Rosebud

The popularity of this place, known for a bemused and indulgent attitude toward anyone looking for a drink and some talk, hasn't diminished since the 1950s, when it attained its fame. The name refers to the beloved sled of Orson Welles' great Citizen Kane. Around the corner from Montparnasse's famous cafes, and thick in associations with Sartre and de Beauvoir, Ionesco, and Duras, Rosebud draws a crowd aged 35 to 65, though the staff has recently remarked on the appearance of students. Drop in at night for a glass of wine, a shot of whiskey, or a hamburger or chili con carne.
