NIGHTLIFE: THE CLUB & MUSIC SCENE Frommer
Nouveau Casino

Some Paris-watchers consider this the epitome of the counterculture and hyper-hip context that blossoms along the rue Oberkampf, beginning around 8pm every night. Positioned within what used to be a movie theater, immediately adjacent to the Café Charbon, it's a large, drafty space sheathed with metal panels and columns, centered on a dance floor and an enormous and bizarre-looking bar that resembles an iceberg. Every night of the week there are live concerts between 8pm and 1am, and every Friday and Saturday the party continues from 1am till dawn with a DJ who spins some of the most avant-garde dance music in Paris. Celebrities spotted here include Prince Albert of Monaco and French film stars Vincent Cassel and Matthieu Kassovitz.

109 rue Oberkampf, 9e.Phone: 01-43-57-57-49.Concerts 9€-12€; disco 7€-9€.Métro: St-Maur, Parmentier, or Menimontant.
