This is one of central London's most stylish Indian restaurants, combining a hip atmosphere with the flavors and scents of southern India. You might opt for a drink at the cellar bar before heading to the street-level dining room, decorated in saffron, cardamom, bay, and pepper hues. A staff member dressed in similarly vivid apparel will propose a wide array of choices, including slow-cooked Indian tandoori specials that feature lamb, chicken, fish, or vegetables with combinations of spices. The a la carte menu offers a variety of courses, including Jhinga Hara Pyaz, spicy queen prawns with fresh spring onions, and Paneer Pasanda, cottage cheese slices stuffed with spinach and served with almond sauce. The cuisine will satisfy traditionalists, but also has a modern flair. The stylish presentation puts this restaurant a step above typical Indian restaurants.

Main courses £9.95-£14.95 ($16-$24); set dinner £20 ($32).Open: Mon-Thurs 11:30am-12:30am; Fri-Sat 11:30am-3am; Sun 12:30-10:30pm.Reservations recommended.Credit Cards: AE, V.Tube: Tottenham Court Rd.
