CURRENCY CONVERTER

Serious foodies know that you'll likely be served some of London's finest Indian cuisine at this address. Both Carlton Television and the London Evening Standard named this the best Indian restaurant in Britain in 2001. Expect robust aromas and earthy flavors. Our spiced duck flavored with spring onions, ginger, and coriander evoked some of the best country dining in India. Eggplant came stuffed with a spicy lamb mince, and was superb, as was the whole fresh fish of the day in a spicy marinade flavored with saffron and cooked whole in a charcoal oven. Some of the best curries in the city are served here. Tawa cookery (which in India is street cookery on a hot plate) is a specialty. At Mela, the fresh meats and other ingredients are cooked straight on a hot plate. Look for the chef's special Tawa dish of the day, perhaps succulent queen prawns cooked with onions and fresh tomatoes. Save room for one of their special desserts.

Main courses £8-£14 ($13-$22); prix-fixe lunch £5.95 ($9.50); prix-fixe dinner (5:30-7pm) £10.95 ($18).Open: Daily noon-11:45pm.Reservations required.Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.Tube: Tottenham Court Rd. or Leicester Sq.
