Overlooking the Great Sound, this restaurant offers a diverse menu that pleases diners who aren't too demanding. If you want filling and satisfying food, it's a suitable choice, though it's not quite as fun a spot as Frog & Onion is. The seating, at pine tables and chairs, is comfortable, and the serving staff (costumed as pirates) is helpful. It's a little hokey, but everyone seems to get into the "pirate-esque" spirit, especially after a rum punch or two. For the most part, the standard lunch fare -- soups, burgers, pastas, and grilled specialties -- is adequate, but not special. However, the gyros on pita bread are spicy delights, especially the 7-inch gyro pizza made with fresh vegetables, pepperoni, and mozzarella.
At night the kitchen shines brighter, as the chefs look abroad for inspiration. Two of the finest dishes are beef tenderloin with porcini mushrooms and chicken cacciatore. Pastas, made fresh daily, are quite delicious. We are less devoted to the garlic shrimp and fresh fisherman's grill.
