This family favorite, located about 5km (3 miles) west of the City of Hamilton, offers a varied and unusual menu at reasonable prices. With the aura and ambience of a European bistro, Pawpaws attracts everybody from couples seeking an upscale dinner to parents with kids. On the walls are murals of papaw (papaya) trees and other scenes, along with trelliswork and paintings by local artists.
The lunch menu features sandwiches, salads, and the restaurant's signature dish, Pawpaw Montespan (made from green papaya, ground beef, and herbs). In the evening, one of the most popular dishes (and deservedly so) is lobster ravioli in basil-cream sauce with strips of smoked salmon. Equally good is the seafood vol-au-vent (baked in pastry with a cream sauce). If you're yearning for island cuisine, sample the red snapper in banana sauce. You'll also find more classic and ordinary dishes, including tender pepper steak in cognac-cream sauce, and leg of lamb steak marinated in herbs.
