This restaurant doesn't even pretend to offer a cuisine as fine as those restaurants already recommended in the parish, but it's the bargain of the area. In high priced Bermuda, it's a find. Near a major south shore traffic junction, this unpretentious restaurant is at the center of an apartment cluster of the same name. From your table, you can see a circular formal flower garden created by the Portuguese owners. The coffee-shop setting -- complete with lime-colored Formica -- and the menu of substantial home-style Bermudian fare are straight out of the '50s. You'll find one of the island's largest sandwich menus (both hot and cold), as well as omelets, homemade soups (there's always a fish chowder of the day), and salads. You can order mixed platters, which feature various dishes such as turkey breast and crabmeat; grilled dishes like T-bone steak; fried liver and onions; or a roast half-chicken. A main course platter is a meal in itself.
Breakfast special (until 11am) $8.50; sandwiches $2.55-$12; main courses $24-$29.Open: Daily 9:30am-1:30am.Closed Feb.Reservations not needed.Credit Cards: MC, V.Bus: 2 or 7.
