With its oversize posters and two little dining areas, this bistro attracts visitors and locals in almost equal numbers. The chef comes from Bordeaux, and he brings the flavors of southern France to his kitchen. The setting is intimate, and the wines are some of the best in the City of Hamilton (the restaurant runs its own wine shop, called Bacchus). Dig into hearty cassoulet; rockfish (local grouper) with a coconut crust and a hint of tarragon; or baked oysters with red pepper pesto. Young duck is stewed in a savory almond and red-wine sauce, and old favorites such as coq au vin (chicken cooked in wine) and a rib-eye steak with pommes frites (french fries) are always on the menu. Save room for the delectable chocolate crème brûlée. Even though Monte Carlo and La Coquille have a better cuisine, this remains a favorite of ours because of its snug setting and friendly service.
Lunch main courses $8-$13; dinner main courses $19-$26.Open: Mon-Fri noon-2:30pm; Sat-Sun 6-10:30pm.Reservations required.Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.Bus: 1, 2, 10, or 11.
