The oldest tavern in St. George is the most popular in Bermuda; it's always jammed with visitors. Under new management, this white building with green shutters has a restaurant and cedar bar with a terrace jutting into St. George's Harbour. New rooms like a mini casino and a cyber cafe have been added. In nice weather, guests usually sit on the terrace. The most popular item on the menu is fish and chips, cooked in beer (St. David's Island style) and often overdone. Bermuda fish chowder is good, as are pork chops and grilled wahoo (the local catch). At lunch, there are burgers, fresh salads, and open-faced sandwiches. The food is passable, but not special. Another horsy tavern, the Black Horse Tavern , serves a more authentic Bermudian cuisine.
Finish off with fresh strudel if you have room. Dress is casual, and there's often enjoyable entertainment.
Lunch main courses $10-$22; dinner main courses $15-$28.Open: Daily noon-4pm, 5:30-10pm. Bar daily 11:30am-1am.Reservations accepted only for groups.Credit Cards: MC, V.Bus: 3, 10, or 11.
