Belmont Golf & Country Club

Scotsman Emmett Devereux designed this course in 1923, and its layout has long been a challenge to golfers. The resort closed in 2003 for a restoration but may be open by the time of your visit -- call first. The golfing magazines write of its par-5 11th hole, with a severe dogleg left and blind tee shot. It's sometimes difficult to finish uphill at number 18. Crystal caves under the turf sometimes cause the ball to roll unpredictably. In spite of these disadvantages, golf pros recommend the Belmont for beginners; the first hole is said to be "confidence building." It's estimated that with a 9 or 10 handicap, golfers will shoot in the 70s at Belmont -- but there are no guarantees. Most of the course is inland, so unlike many golf courses in Bermuda, this one provides few views of the Atlantic.

Greens fees (which include golf carts) are $90 Monday to Friday, $95 weekends. A full set of clubs rents for $25. The dress code requires shirts with collars.

Open: Mon-Fri 7am-5pm, Sat-Sun 7am-5pm.Ferry from the City of Hamilton.Holes: 18. Par: 70. Length: 5,199m (17,331 ft.).
