The false-fronted Magpie & Stump doesn't really match up architecturally with the rest of smart downtown Banff -- and neither does the food nor atmosphere, thank goodness. The Mexican and Tex Mex fare is done up with style and heft: Someone in the kitchen sure knows how to handle a tortilla. This isn't high cuisine, just well-prepared favorites such as enchiladas, tacos, and the like. The interior looks like a cozy English pub, except for the buffalo heads and cactus plants everywhere -- along with a lot of Southwest kitsch. The cantina is a good place for a lively late-night drink.
