Although it doesn't look especially promising upon first approach, this place is a true keeper. The restaurant charges almost unbelievably low prices for several four-course meals daily. The blackboard menu changes depending on what's available at the market that day, making it possible to dine here twice a day for a week without repeating anything except the uninteresting salad. Roast beef and choucroute garnie (sauerkraut served with meat) are likely to show up, but the specialty of the house is seafood -- watch for the cold lobster with herb mayonnaise. Well short of chic, the interior doesn't make the most of the stone walls and old beams, but the decor hardly matters at these prices and relative quality. The crowd is diverse, with a wide range of ages, genders, and occupations.
Main courses and table d'hôte lunch and dinner C$9.95-C$16 (US$7.10-US$11).Open: Daily 11:30am-9pm.Reservations recommended on weekends.Credit Cards: MC, V.Métro: Place d'Armes.
