CURRENCY CONVERTER

Named for the publishing firm that used to occupy the building, this spritely new arrival on the Laurier scene has a long tin-topped bar along one side, well-spaced tables, and, far from least, a crew of cheerful waitresses. While the bistro dishes sound conventional on the page, they are put together in freshly conceived ways. Two examples: The curried mussel soup is capped by a nicely-browned pillow of puff pastry, and the salmon pot-au-feu is a perfectly cooked filet laid over a healthful selection of small potatoes, carrots, tender Brussels sprouts, and their collective broth. Food is different but not startling so, and served in an atmosphere that invites lingering. Weekend brunch is popular.

Main courses C$9.50-C$29 (US$6.80-US$21); table d'hôte lunch C$20 (US$14).Open: Mon-Wed noon-midnight; Thurs-Fri noon-1am; Sat 10:30am-1am; Sun 10:30am-midnight.Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.Métro: Laurier.
