CURRENCY CONVERTER

The room that houses this restaurant is airy and open, with Art Deco touches, honey-toned woodwork, sliding doors in front, and a large side terrace bordered with greenery. That agreeable but unobtrusive setting allows diners to fully appreciate some of the best food on offer in Montréal these days. This is a kitchen unafraid to play with convention but unwilling to push the limits simply to get attention. While some observers have labeled the results Creole-Cajun inspired (there are some Louisiana touches), much of what appears on the plate is reminiscent of the Carolina Low Country. Creamy hominy, dandelion greens, and oven-roasted tomatoes complement the perky pecan-crusted chicken, which is sautéed just seconds past underdone. Octopus is astonishingly tender after being boiled three hours and marinated. Seared crab cakes are combined with mustard sauce, corn relish, and andouille sausage. Jazz trios are on deck at 10pm Friday and Saturday nights. If you only have time for two meals in Montréal, eat one of them here.

Main courses C$22-C$34 (US$16-US$24), table d'hôte lunch C$9.95-C$17 (US$7.10-US$12).Open: Mon-Fri noon-2:30pm and 5:30pm-midnight; Sat-Sun 5:30-11:00pm.Reservations suggested.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.Métro: Mont-Royal.
