CURRENCY CONVERTER

One of the survivors in what used to be a far more vibrant Greektown, Faros is a refuge for those who like the food of the Aegean but don't want to pay the high prices at Milos, a couple of blocks north. Blue-over-white tablecloths fulfill the requirement of showing the colors of the mother country. Maybe the amateurish paintings and thrown-together decor are obligatory, too. Ritual continues with the convention of offering fish by the pound, which is fine, if there are two or three of you. But if dining alone, choose from the list of combination plates, which come with rice and vegetables (they're only steamed, but at least they didn't have to be defrosted.) The clientele is more neighborhood than fashionable, but if you've got a hankering for zingy feta, fruity olive oil, and sparkling-fresh fish baked, sautéed, or grilled to the very cusp of perfection, all without blowing a week's meal budget, this is your place.

Main courses C$20-C$40 (US$14-US$29).Open: Daily noon-2pm and 6-11pm.Reservations rarely necessary.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.Métro: Laurier.
