Santa Monica Boulevard is the heart of West Hollywood's commercial strip, and Skewers' sidewalk tables are a great place to see all kinds of neighborhood activity (and audacity). Inside is a New York-like narrow space with changing artwork adorning bare brick walls. From the zesty marinated carrot sticks you get the moment you're seated, to sweet, sticky squares of baklava for dessert, this Mediterranean grill is a sure bet for a great, inexpensive meal. You'll get baskets of warm pita bread for scooping up traditional salads like baba ghanoush (grilled eggplant with tahini and lemon) and tabbouleh (cracked wheat, parsley, and tomatoes). Try marinated chicken and lamb off the grill, or dolmades (rice- and meat-stuffed grape leaves) seared with a tangy tomato glaze.

Main courses $7-$9; salads and pita $4-$7.Open: Daily 11am-10pm (till midnight on weekends).Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.
