Outfitted with Formica tabletops and looking something like an ethnic IHOP, Versailles feels much like any number of Miami restaurants that cater to the Cuban community. The menu reads like a veritable survey of Havana-style cookery and includes specialties like "Moors and Christians" (flavorful black beans with white rice), ropa vieja (a stringy beef stew), eastin lechón (suckling pig with sliced onions), and fried whole fish (usually sea bass). Anybody who's eaten here will tell you the same thing: "Order the shredded roast pork." Tossed with the restaurant's trademark garlic-citrus sauce, it's highly addictive. Equally as fetching is the chicken -- succulent, slow roasted, smothered in onions and either garlic-citrus sauce or barbecue sauce. Almost everything is served with black beans and rice; wine and beer are available. Because meals are good, bountiful, and cheap, there's often a wait.

Another Versailles restaurant is located in Culver City at 10319 Venice Blvd. (tel. 310/558-3168).
