Tahiti has a rapidly growing fan base of showbiz types and artists who inhabit the eclectic surrounding neighborhood. Chef/owner Tony DiLembo's (who was once Barbra Streisand's private chef) distinctive "world cuisine" is a provocative mix of influences that produces diverse specialties like rare ahi tuna drizzled with lime-ginger butter, sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds, and served with wasabi horseradish and papaya garnish; Argentinean-style T-bone with chimichurri dipping sauce; sherry-sautéed chicken and spinach pot stickers accented with mint; and perennial standout rosemary chicken strips with fettuccine in sun-dried tomato/cream sauce. The relaxing decor is sophisticated South Seas with a modern twist, incorporating thatch, batik, rattan, and palm fronds. In the adjacent Tiki Lounge (daily 6pm-2am; happy hour 6-8pm), tropical concoctions contribute to the island ambience. If the weather is nice, try to get a table on the patio. And don't forget to save room for Tahiti's tropical-tinged desserts.
