The American Conservatory Theater made its debut in 1967 and quickly established itself as the city's premier resident theater group and one of the nation's best. The A.C.T. season runs September through July and features both classic and experimental works. A.C.T. recently returned to its home, the fabulous Geary Theater (1910), a national historic landmark, after the theater sustained severe damage in the 1989 earthquake and closed for renovations. Now it's fully refurbished and modernized to such an extent that it's regarded as one of America's finest performance spaces.
