Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum

More than 30 planes and spacecraft occupy cavernous Hangar No. 1, which became a museum when Lowry Air Force Base closed in 1995. On display are antique biplanes, a search-and-rescue helicopter, an F-14 Tomcat, a massive B-1A bomber--one of only five ever built--and most of the F-1 fighter series. You can also see a World War II uniform collection, a Norden bombsight, U3A Blue Canoe, and the Freedom space module, plus traveling exhibits and changing private collections. Every other month the museum hosts "Open Cockpit Day," when children get to climb into the planes' cockpits. The store is filled with aviation- and space-oriented clothing, souvenirs, and toys for kids of all ages. Allow 1 1/2 hours.
