Nexxt Café

Location: Off Euclid Ave., South Beach
Cuisine: American
Price Category: Moderate

Locals joke that this lively, always-packed outdoor cafe should be called Nexxt Year to reflect the awfully slow service that has become its unfortunate trademark. Service aside, Nexxt has made quite a splash on South Beach, attracting an evening crowd looking for nighttime revelry and a morning crowd on the weekends for a standing-room-only brunch sensation. The fresh food comes in lavish portions that could easily feed two; the salads are an especially good bargain. Start your meal with the calamari fritti--they're a lot fresher here than at most other local restaurants--or the popcorn shrimp, which are larger than you might expect. The burgers and sandwiches are similarly big, and the steaks are well worth a taste. They have coffees in tall, grande, and "maxxi." There are also plenty of coffee cocktails, mixed drinks, frozen beverages, and wines, giving this place a nice bar life, too.

Main courses $12-$23.Open: Daily 9am-1am.Reservations accepted (no-shows will be charged $15 per seat).Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.
