Somehow this place manages to make Mexican food seem healthy with its flavorful, marinated char-broiled meats and fresh vegetarian selections. In addition to bountiful burritos, Mrs. Mendoza's is known for fabulous salsas, from mild to five-alarm spicy. Whereas San Loco Tacos is known for its clubby crowd, the atmospherically lacking Mrs. Mendoza's is better known for a low-frills clientele who know and want great Mexican food--not a scene. There's another location at 9739 NW 41st St. (the Doral Plaza) in West Miami (tel. 305/477-5119).
