Atlanta's best and most famous steakhouse, Bone's is a top power-lunch venue for the expense-account crowd, who are provided with notepads and phones at the midday meal. As many deals as steaks are cut here, and the place is rich with celebrity lore. When Bob Hope dined here, everyone respected his privacy until he rose to leave; then the entire dining room gave him a standing ovation. And during his presidency, George Bush came in for dinner one night, booking six surrounding tables for Secret Service men (they ate too). The setting is traditional masculine-clubby.
As noted for its seafood as for its steaks and chops, Bone's flies Maine lobsters in daily and serves fresh Gulf Coast crabmeat and shrimp. There is prime-aged, corn-fed Iowa beef, hand cut on the premises, always prepared exactly as ordered. Thick, juicy lamb chops are excellent alternatives to the beef. Lighter entrees are available at lunch, along with salads, sandwiches, and soups.
The wine gallery at Bone's houses over 500 selections; international in scope, it highlights French and Californian wines. Ultra-rich desserts include "Mountain-high Pie"--layers of chocolate chip, rum raisin, and vanilla ice cream.
