This spot is a combination of an upscale cafe and gourmet bakery. The cafe portion is more casual and relaxed than the Buckhead Diner, its glitzy cousin across the street, but the food is still upscale. The menu is large and varied, with wonderful soups and hearty sandwiches. There are also interesting main-dish salads, including the long-time favorite, a chicken, egg, and tuna salad trio. About half the space is given over to a vast bakery (the Buckhead Bread Company) that displays many varieties of fresh-baked breads each day--everything from focaccia flavored with fresh rosemary and basil to honeyed eight-grain loaves studded with roasted sunflower seeds. The breads are used for the cafe sandwiches and are a major attraction. The gorgeous pastries have a French pedigree and will transport you to the Left Bank. It's possible to get something to go or pick out a pastry and have it served to you in the cafe or on the small patio with a cup of specialty coffee.
Weekday breakfast includes fresh-baked pastries, crepes, Belgian waffles, and traditional fare such as poached eggs with cheddar cheese grits. The weekend brunch is a busy time here and the menu is fancier, including a delicious dish composed of two pan-poached eggs with two Portobello mushrooms, and crispy prosciutto topped with a port wine glaze. The crème brûlée French toast is also quite delicious.
