Grab a plate and sit down at the family dinner table in this upbeat, energetic establishment. Housed in a former warehouse on an odd little street filled with antiques shops and galleries, the place feels like a sunny loft in the middle of SoHo. It's noisy as the devil, so if that bothers you, ask for a table on the enclosed patio.
Service is friendly, presented traditional family style, with generous platters designed to serve two or three people. Many of the selections are available as half orders, but it's more fun to go for broke and share around the table. The menu is as huge as the portions, and everyone in the family (kids included) will be able to find something they can't live without. Specialties include tender-crisp fried calamari, and chicken di Napoli, a lightly breaded, sautéed chicken breast with fresh tomato and basil in balsamic vinaigrette. The shrimp fra diavolo, sautéed with hot pepper and tomato sauce, is quite good, especially when accompanied by hefty, chewy squares of focaccia. The desserts are forgettable, but who has room anyway? P.S. There's no pizza.
