This may not be the very best Italian restaurant in town, but the combination of high quality and low prices makes it a favorite neighborhood stop. Billy Petrucci runs this little trattoria, and his father, Nico, runs the chic, upscale Abruzzi in the same shopping center. It's a great choice when you want good food but don't want to dress up and go "out."
The yeasty, chewy pizzas, most of which are available by the slice, are as good as they come. Seafood and veal, served with a side of pasta marina, are done especially well. And the mussels appetizer is large enough for an entree. The best traditional Italian dish on the menu is the lasagna, made with the tenderest of noodles, a little ground beef, delicate béchamel and tomato sauces, and lots of mozzarella. It's worth twice the price. The eggplant lasagna is even better. The house salad is made with boring iceberg lettuce, so choose the huge Caesar instead and split it. The wine is limited to the house variety--one white, one red--but they're not bad. This place is extremely kid-friendly and usually filled with families from the local, well-heeled neighborhood. The patio is a great spot in summer.
