Lakewood Antiques Market

Held at the historic Lakewood Fairgrounds, this huge market has 1,500 dealer spaces, most of them in the huge old fair buildings. You'll find thousands of rare antiques and collectibles, old architectural treasures, books, glassware, tools, cookware, linens, jewelry, and so on. There's also some new merchandise, such as cut-rate garden pottery, wrought-iron sculpture, and custom wood furniture, as well as fruits and vegetables in summer and fall. There are several food stands throughout, some of them selling homemade baked goods. Because many of the stalls are outside, it's fun to browse this one when the weather is pleasant. The place is huge and fascinating, so plan to spend much of the day.

Open the second weekend of each month, Thursday noon to 6pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 6pm, and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Admission is $3, except for Thursday, which is "dealer day" and costs $5. Some dealers will still be setting up their booths on Thursday, but you have the advantage of getting the first peek at all the merchandise.

At the Lakewood Fairgrounds, between downtown Atlanta and the airportTake I-75/I-85 south to Exit 243 (Langford Pkwy.) and go east to the fairgrounds.Free parking.
