SHOPPING: MARKETS Frommer
Harry's Whole Foods

Like the DeKalb Farmers Market, this megamarket must be seen to be believed. Under new ownership since 2001, Harry's is generally the same in concept--mountains of fresh produce, incredible selections of cheese, seafood, meats, gourmet items, wines, beers, and more exotica than you can imagine. There is a difference between the two, though. DeKalb attracts a more international clientele, although the selection of goods is not necessarily more international in scope. Harry's is a bit more upscale and polished, and attracts many suburbanites, probably because of its locations. DeKalb has a wider variety of organic foods and produce, while Harry's does better at baked goods, prepared foods, and cheese. Saturday and Sunday are crowded at all markets, but it seems to add to the fun if you don't have to do serious shopping. Open Monday to Saturday 9am to 8pm, and Sunday 10am to 7pm.

There are two other Harry's locations: 2025 Satellite Blvd., Duluth (tel. 770/416-6900), and 70 Powers Ferry Rd., Marietta (tel. 770/578-4400).

1180 Upper Hembree Rd, Alpharetta, GAPhone: 770/664-6300.
