This isn't a hardware store; it's an institution. Woodworkers come from all over the country to browse Highland's huge selection of woodworking supplies and tools, and still more order from its voluminous catalog. But even if you don't know a router from a bandsaw, it's fun to roam through the large, high-ceilinged store, which has an old-fashioned, neighborly feel. Highland also stocks regular hardware, gardening merchandise, annuals, and perennials. Call in advance if you're interested in attending one of the many woodworking programs or workshops. Open Monday to Saturday 8:30am to 6pm, and Sunday noon to 5pm.
