Casanova Italian Restaurant
1188 Makawao Ave

tel.: 808/572-0220
Cuisine: Italian
Price Category: Moderate

The nexus of upcountry dining and nightlife, Casanova is Makawao's citadel of hip. It's casual, too, with terrific food and music and a tiny veranda with a few stools, always full, in front of a deli at Makawao's busiest intersection. The restaurant contains a stage, dance floor, restaurant, and bar -- and food to love and remember. This is pasta heaven; try the spaghetti fradiavolo or the spinach gnocchi in a fresh tomato-Gorgonzola sauce. Other choices include a huge pizza selection, grilled lamb chops in an Italian mushroom marinade, every possible type of pasta, and luscious desserts. Our personal picks on a stellar menu: fresh Kula spinach sautéed with butter, pine nuts, and Parmesan; polenta with radicchio (the mushrooms and cream sauce are fabulous!); and tiramisu, the best on the island.

Main courses $10-$24; 12-inch pizzas from $10.Open: Mon-Sat 11:30am-2pm and 5:30-9pm; Sun 5:30-9pm; dancing Wed-Sat 9:45pm-1am. Lounge daily 5:30pm-12:30am or 1am; deli daily 8am-6:30pm.Reservations recommended for dinner.Credit Cards: DC, MC, V.
