Dana Pastula, who managed fancy restaurants on Lanai and in Wailea before opening her own, has cloned her wonderful Makawao eatery for lucky Wailuku diners. The menu is expanded here, with seating for 50 and daily lunch specials that have the same imaginative, attentive touches of her Makawao gem. The cafe is on the main street of Wailuku, with a menu that features fresh Island ingredients: taro salad with crisp Molokai sweet potato, seared ahi sandwich with wasabi mayonnaise, fresh fish, and Aloha Friday crab cakes with sweet chili aioli. Sandwiches (crab club, roast turkey breast, roasted Maui vegetables) and salads (including our favorite, curry chicken: hot chicken with peanuts, chiles, ginger, and veggies) complement daily specials such as chicken fettuccine and blackened mahimahi. The plate lunch, at $5.50, is always a surprise -- and a terrific deal. Tip: You can get a great picnic lunch here for your outing in Iao Valley. Look for sister restaurants in Makawao, Maalaea, and Lahaina.
Sandwiches $4.95-$6.95; lunch specials $5.50-$7.50.Open: Mon-Fri 10:30am-2:30pm.Credit Cards: Not Accepted.
