Shops have come and gone in this small, exclusive, and once-chic shopping center, now much quieter than in days past. The closing of elegant Mandalay is a big loss. The Elizabeth Dole Gallery has loads of Dale Chihuly studio glass, fabulous and expensive, a dramatic counterpoint to South Seas Trading Post and its exotic artifacts such as New Guinea masks, Balinese beads, tribal jewelry, lizard-skin drums, and coconut-shell carvings with mother-of-pearl inlay. Otherwise, it's slim pickings for shoppers in Kapalua, where logo wear, jewelry, and real-estate offices are the norm and the fabulous Sansei sushi bar reigns.
