Bangkok Cuisine
177A Mass. Ave

tel.: 617/262-5377
Cuisine: Asian/Pac Rim
Price Category: Moderate

Extremely popular with patrons of nearby Symphony Hall and the students who dominate this neighborhood, Bangkok Cuisine is a classic. The first Thai restaurant in Boston, it opened in 1979 and set (and has maintained) a high standard for the many others that followed. For the unadventurous, it serves fantastic pad Thai. The rest of the menu runs the gamut from excellent basil chicken to all sorts of curry offerings, pan-fried or deep-fried whole fish, noodle soups, and hot-and-sour salads. Green curry in coconut milk and vegetables prepared with strong green Thai chile pepper are the most incendiary dishes. In this long, narrow room, there are no secrets -- if the person at the next table is eating something appealing, ask what it is.

Main courses $5-$8 at lunch; $8-$15 at dinner.Open: Daily 11:30am-10:30pm.Reservations not accepted.Credit Cards: AE, DISC, MC, V.T: Green Line B, C, or D to Hynes/ICA.
