Out-of-towners ask conspiratorially, "Where do people who live here really go?" This is one good answer. The Green Street Grill is a splash of the tropics on a colorless side street. Formerly a divey bar, the sleek two-level space attracts a local crowd with generous portions of exotic, flavorful cuisine. Start with crunchy conch-and-cod fritters, served with spicy rémoulade. Entrees please the eye and the palate -- a special of spice-dusted tilapia, smoky from the grill, arrives buried in colorful fruits and vegetables. Pumpkin, spinach, and roasted garlic ravioli (half egg pasta, half spinach) swims in a sauce of wild mushrooms, asparagus, pumpkin chunks, roasted red peppers, and plum tomatoes. It sounds like too much, but the waitress who recommended it was right on. Disappointingly, there's no dessert menu, but several dishes incorporate tropical fruit (think mango and papaya), and there's a menu of sweet rum and vodka drinks.
Main courses $5-$8 at lunch, $13-$20 at dinner.Open: Mon-Fri 11:30am-2pm; Mon-Wed 6-10pm; Thurs-Sat 6-11pm; Sun 5:30-9:30pm. (Bar closes at 1am Sun-Wed, 2am Thurs-Sat).Reservations accepted only for parties of 6 or more.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.T: Red Line to Central Sq.
