Iso is one of the top choices in town for fresh and beautifully presented sushi at affordable prices. The sushi and sashimi combos make a good-value starting point; supplement with your favorites or a few of the daily special fishes, which may include blue fin toro (tuna belly) or Japanese aji (horse mackerel). The menu also features light, greaseless tempura and entrees like chicken teriyaki and beef negamaki for the sushiphobes in your party. The attractive Keith Haring-themed room is tightly packed but still manages to be relatively comfortable, and service is better than at other sushi joints in this price range. Unless you arrive before 6pm, expect a line -- but the high-quality fish and wallet-friendly pricing make Iso worth the wait.

A la carte sushi $2.50-$6; sushi rolls $4.50-$12.50; sushi combos and main courses $13.50-$24.Open: Mon-Sat 5:15pm-midnight.Reservations not accepted.Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.Subway: 6 to Astor Place.
