The Mansion on Turtle Creek
2821 Turtle Creek Blvd
(Off Cedar Springs Rd)
tel.: 800/422-3408 in Texas
Location: Off Cedar Springs Rd
Cuisine: American Regional
Price Category: Very Expensive

If you like to dream big, the Mansion is Dallas's biggest splurge, though for that single spectacular occasion, I'd opt for the elegant prix-fixe menu at Hôtel St. Germain. The Mansion is high glam all the way, in the way that the old TV soap Dallas was (the waitstaff wears custom-made Lucchese cowboy boots). Celebrity chef Dean Faring serves wildly creative Southwestern dishes in a rich, elegant setting. Though it's suffered some hits to its reputation lately, it's still the place to see and be seen in Big D -- though regular folks seem to get overlooked with all the star-studded clientele demanding attention. Starters include the signature tortilla soup and lobster tacos. Main courses up the ante: How about Broken Arrow ranch antelope with homemade mango Worcestershire glaze on guizo of rabbit, morels, and tomatillos? The wine list is a novella. The prix-fixe lunch is a bargain, and Sunday brunch ($38) a Texas favorite. Keep in mind that you are expected to attire yourself for a mansion: A jacket is required for men.

Main courses $26-$55.Open: Mon-Sat 11:30am-2pm; Sun 11:30am-2:30pm; daily 6-10pm.Reservations required.Credit Cards: AE, DC, DISC, MC, V.
