This ultrasleek, posh restaurant is inspired by the Orient, though it takes its name from that quintessential American film, Citizen Kane. It is one of the city's hottest and most exciting restaurants to enliven the scene, even though service and attention to detail have suffered a bit recently. The decor is spare but spectacular, with slate tiles and bold bursts of color. Main courses can be delightfully tricky, but the best are the ones that don't try too hard: scrumptious grilled and sliced Kobe beef, black cod served with blonde miso, and papaya salad with chunks of fried calamari. The signature dish is a martini tuna tartare with caviar and crème fraîche: a mound of raw, red tuna served on the bottom of an inverted martini glass. There is also, of course, a very nice sushi bar and selection of high-end sakes, which come served in wooden boxes. The wine list contains an interesting, good-value $15 sake sampler. If the buzz gets too deafening inside, head outdoors to the rock garden patio.

Main courses $17-$34.Open: Mon-Fri 11:30am-2:30pm; Fri-Sat 5:30-11pm; Sun-Thurs 5:30-10pm.Reservations required.Credit Cards: AE, DC, DISC, MC, V.
