A relentlessly convivial spot, the Café du Monde enjoyed long popularity at its prominent address near the Musée de la Civilisation. In late 2002, it moved to this new site on the edge of the river, adjoining Le Terminal de Croisières -- the cruise terminal. It's a much larger, fancier space, seating three times as many people, not counting the terrace. The staff is as amiable as ever, the food a touch more creative but still within bistro conventions. The menu continues to feature classic pâtés, quiches, cassoulet, duck confit, and six versions of mussels with frites, with pastas and paella among some of the less French preparations. Imported beers are the favored beverages, along with wines by the glass. Service is friendly, but easily distracted, given the lively atmosphere.
Main courses C$14-C$18 (US$10-US$13); table d'hôte (after 3pm) the price of your main course plus C$6.95 or C$11 (US$4.95 or US$7.85).Open: Mon-Fri 11:30am-11pm; Sat-Sun brunch 9:30am-2:30pm.Reservations recommended.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.
