DINING Frommer
Fratelli
1230 NW Hoyt St

tel.: 503/241-8800
Cuisine: Italian
Price Category: Moderate

In this rustic-yet-chic restaurant, cement walls provide a striking contrast to dramatic draperies and candles that drip casually onto the tabletops. Dishes are consistently good, with surprisingly moderate prices for the Pearl District. There's excellent olive oil to go with your bread and an antipasti plate that's far more creative than your usual platter of meat, cheese, and pickled vegetables. On a recent visit, everything we tasted, from spring beans with arugula and octopus to chicken wrapped in prosciutto to rabbit crepinette (a sort of sausage) to a luscious panna cotta (cooked cream) dessert, was thoroughly satisfying. This restaurant has a similar aesthetic and menu to Caffé Mingo , but at Fratelli you can make reservations.

Main courses $11-$16.50.Open: Sun-Thurs 5:30-9pm, Fri-Sat 5:30-10pm.Reservations recommended.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.
