Given its popularity and situation in this touristy quarter, Gibby's is routinely dismissed as an overpriced snare for out-of-towners. Unhappily, that's closer to the truth of late, now that they've eliminated lunch and jacked up their prices (that C$42.75 is for filet mignon and scampi, a jazzed-up surf-and-turf). Still, it's a handsome place, a 2-century-old stone-and-beam setting that's much larger than it looks from the outside. And if your taste buds cry out for a break from the novelties of fusion cookery, then this is your place. Everything comes in strapping portions, cuts of beef and lamb rearing 2 inches off the plate and slabs of fish as wide as a catcher's mitt. Grilling is usually precise and to order, the simpler preparations always best, as is true of most steak houses.
Main courses C$24.95-C$42.75.
