If you just spent all day wandering in and out of Scottsdale galleries without buying a single bronze statue, you just might be a frugal traveler. If so, you'll want to know about Bandera. Actually, if you've been craving barbecue or grilled chicken for a few hours, chances are it's because you've been smelling the wood-roasted chickens turning on the rotisseries in Bandera's back-of-the-building, open-air stone oven. What an aroma! The succulent spit-roasted chicken is served with the ultimate comfort food, a mountain of creamy mashed potatoes flecked with green onion and black pepper. Sure, you could order prime rib, jambalaya, or leg of lamb, but you'd be a fool if you did. Stick with the chicken or maybe the honey-barbecued ribs, and you won't go wrong. This place may be a California chain, but, hey, Californians know good food.
Main courses $10-$20.
Open: Sun-Thurs 4:30-10pm, Fri-Sat 4:30-11pm.
