Price Category: Inexpensive

Euro transplants love Café Claude, a crowded and lively restaurant tucked into a narrow lane near Union Square. Seemingly everything--every table, spoon, salt shaker, and waiter--is imported from France. With prices topping out at about $12 for main courses such as poussin rôti (roast Cornish hen with potatoes and aïoli), French shepherd's pie, or poisson du jour (fish of the day), Café Claude is a good value. There is live jazz Thursday and Friday from 8pm to 11pm and Saturday from 7 to 10pm. Outdoor seating is available when the weather permits.

Main courses $7-$13. Open: Mon 11:30am-2:30pm, Tues-Wed 11:30am-10pm, Thurs-Fri 11:30am-10:30pm Sat 11:30am-11:30pm. Reservations recommended. Credit Cards: AE, DC, DISC, MC, V. Cable car: Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde lines.
