Named after the Greek goddess of dawn, Eos put Cole Valley on the culinary map, thanks to chef-proprietor Arnold Wong, a master of texture and taste who perfected his craft while working at Masa's and Silks and also heads up one of the city's hottest new restaurants, bacar. With a twinge of guilt, you dig in and mar the artistic presentation of each dish, such as the albacore tuna tetaki tower, which comes seared with cracked black pepper, sprouts, white miso sauce, and black tobiko caviar. For starters, try tea-smoked salmon and mango spring rolls with wasabi-honey mustard dipping sauce. Unfortunately, the stark, industrial-deco decor does little to dampen the decibels, making a romantic outing nearly impossible unless you're into shouting. Around the corner is a less noisy, casual wine bar (with the same name) that stocks more than 400 vintages from around the globe.

Main courses $19-$28. Open: Mon-Sat 5:30-11pm; Sun 5-11pm. Reservations recommended. Credit Cards: AE, MC, V. Muni Metro: N. Bus: 6, 33, or 43.
