Housed in a cement-sided West Indian building on the main street of town, Wajang Doll is the best Indonesian restaurant in the Caribbean. A low-slung front porch lets you watch passers by outside, and the big windows in back overlook the sea. The restaurant is known for its 19-dish dinner, known as a rijsttafel (rice table), in which rice is served with a medley of small dishes. The chef crushes his spices daily for maximum pungency. Specialties include fried red snapper with ginger, chile, onions, garlic, and lemon grass; a variety of omelets stuffed with curry; Sumatran-style beef with white rice, a spicy seafood tofu, tempura made from soy bean, plus zestily flavored Javanese chicken dishes.
